Shantae Russell shares how AI helped his security business climb back to the top of Google

Shantae Russell admitted that AI felt uncomfortable at first but once he accepted that he needed it, he started tinkering. He began with ChatGPT, moved to Gemini and then started experimenting with Claude, gradually bringing these tools into his business for the tasks he simply couldn’t handle on his own. The result? He’s effectively multiplied himself and now spends more of his time managing than doing.

Marketing has been where AI made the biggest difference. After paying a website company $500 a month, Shantae discovered his business had all but disappeared from Google and getting it back would take real time and effort. With AI’s help, he put in that work. Today, a search for security cameras in Rochester puts his company in the top three, alongside Doyle, ADT, and Vivint, companies spending thousands of dollars to hold those spots.

To show how accessible these tools are, Shantae shared a fun example: an apple left on the meeting table the week before. He snapped a photo, dropped it into Gemini with a few words of direction and got back an animated video of the apple speaking to the room. Hugh Miller caught the bug too, using the same approach to make a video of a cat singing “Happy Birthday” for his wife’s birthday. Shantae’s closing message was simple: you should be using AI in your business, because if you aren’t, your competition is.
