Communication with your customers is key

During this time of high inflation, particularly with fuel costs rising daily, make sure to explain the reasons for price increases to your customers so they realize you’re not trying to gouge them, rather simply passing on increased fuel and input costs to stay in business.

An itemized invoice that breaks out “trip charge” or “fuel surcharge” is one option.  Another is to simply add a statement to the invoice telling customers that input costs have risen and necessitated a price increase.  Finally, verbally telling customers works well too.

Customers are more likely to be understanding of a price increase after you explain the reasons to them.
