Questions to Ask Yourself About Your Marketing

  1. Are you marketing to yourself?
    • Do I know and understand what appeals to my target audience? Their age? Culture? Beliefs?
    • Am I looking through my eyes, my generation, my culture when utilizing marketing strategies?
    • Are my photos, videos, etc., relevant and up-to-date as they relate to my target audience?
  2. What if my generation/age/culture/beliefs is my target audience? — then…Are you keeping up with your target audience? (Think marketing using Michael Jordan!)
    • Are my comments, jokes, references relevant and up-to-date to my target audience?
  3. What is my outdatedness communicating to my target audience? Maybe it’s causing them to wonder:
    • Is Regina using the most up-to-date approaches in therapy?
    • Is Dale using the safest techniques/equipment with my heater/AC units?
    • Are Robert and Hugh keeping up with all the legal policies/procedures when taking care of my insurance?

What Can I do?

  • Magnifying glass iconOnce you have a rough draft/photo/video/etc., have someone in your target demographic (besides just you) look it over. Also, have people from different demographics check it out too if you’re able (this is especially important if you have a variety of ages, ethnicities in your demo).
  • comment bubbles iconBe open to feedback. Remember what I shared about my younger co-worker helping me with my flyer? If she was my demographic, that feedback would have been imperative.
  • Chess pieces iconChange your strategy to be relevant/up-to-date. If you’re hesitant, run 2 different ads (the one you like and the one that others think is more relevant) and see what comes back to you!
  • overlapping arrows iconBe flexible and open to marketing to what your demographic wants and needs, not what you like and think is groovy, cool, dope, radical, sick, fire (pick your generation’s word!).

So many reasons why it’s important to be up-to-date and relevant!!! Thank you, guys!
