Speak in a Language Everyone Understands

“Waltzing Matilda…”, What?

Most everyone has heard of Waltzing Matilda and a good number may even know the main chorus (or at least the popular line) to the song:

“Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda,
you’ll come a waltzing Matilda with me, and
he sang as he sat and waited for his billyboil,
you’ll come a waltzing Matilda with me.”

The question is: what does it mean? The key point in today’s Marketing Minute is use language your customer understands or they may enjoy listening, they may enjoy singing – but they will have no idea what you are talking about. Speak with them about your product or service in words and terms they’ll understand, not industry jargon or slang, or else you’ll run the risk of your message being lost in translation.
