A seesaw where one side is higher than the other, and above it is a gear with a question mark.

Increase business opportunities with awareness and understanding.

I recently attended a course on Implicit Bias and Cultural Awareness and learned that our reactions are 95% subliminal and only 5% are cognitive and conscious. We are all a product of our upbringing and cultural exposures. So, while many of us believe we are not racist, there are many subtle, almost undetectable, ways in which we react to situations that are biased and not intentional. Bias also is a word that is not inherently bad; it is a preference, a way of looking at the world that has been formed over the years of our lives.

The primary focus of the course was to be curious, to first be aware of our internal reactions, then to wait, digest and the approach any situation with a more open mind and to be filled with curiosity instead of judgement. By attempting to learn about others, we open ourselves to better understanding the world and increase our business opportunities.
